Maui Christian Business Outreach
LUNCHEON MEETING

Aloha,

Mahalo for attending our first Maui Marketplace Ministries meeting. We want to take some time to review our first meeting. Below you will see short paragraphs in italics. They all are from God's word and from various versions to challenge you.

The feedback from you all has been so encouraging. We are praying that it is God's will to take this to another level and do something that counts on Maui but we need your help. .

Give yourself to God….Surrender your whole being to Him to be used for righteous PURPOSES.

The Sheraton is such a beautiful meeting place for our new group.

They committed themselves to the reading of the apostles, the life together, the common meal and the prayers.

We are considering having a follow-up lunch meeting with those who really want to make a difference on Maui. We would pick a board and chairperson at that time.

Our speakers challenged us to have a purpose for our life as well as our workplace and do something about it together.

We know several of you were sick or out of town and could not make this meeting and we hope you will be at the next one. We want to encourage those that could not make the first meeting to speak to others who attended, become part of the group, then spread the word about it to others.

We are simply God's servants….Each one of us does the work which the Lord gave him to do: I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plant, but it was God who made the plant grow.

Here are a few things that we will be doing during future meetings:

  • Highlight two or three of you to talk about your business.
  • Guest speakers to challenge us.
  • Round table discussions on issues facing us.
  • Have a time to share what you have tried that worked.

After hearing Tom's message, several of you have asked us about the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren that we use. This book will feed the hunger for knowing more about what Dan and Tom spoke of, and help you find your purpose in life.

Several us will meet together at Napili Bay (take look www.napilibay.com) to review what we read, thought on that week from "The Purpose Driven Life") before sunset at a day to be determine (thinking Saturday nights 5-7pm for 6 times and I guarantee it will be 40 days in your life that will show you how to know your purpose for living here on Maui).

You can order The Purpose Drive Life on-line, however; you may opt to purchase it a local store called "By The Book" (located in Maui Mall). This beautiful, peaceful store is owned by Kelly and Jill, two great women who are part of Maui Marketplace Ministries, and who also attended our luncheon. They are now offering a special sales price on the book.

For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible…everything got started in Him and finds a PURPOSE in Him.
-
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's PURPOSE that that prevails.
-
For David….Served the PURPOSE of God in his own generation.
-
His plans endure forever; His PURPOSES last eternally.
-
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD'S PURPOSE that prevails.
-
Know where you're headed, and you will stay on solid ground.

Tom Flick speaking from his heart to our new group

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things, "declares the LORD.

We are always open to anyone who wants to drop by One Napili Way to see how we do some of these things we spoke about at the meeting.

If you know of anyone on Maui who should be part of this group, please tell them to email us @ paulmaui@aloha.net or call us at 669-0698.

A lot of interest was shown in doing a project that helps the community and we would love to talk about this more but also do it. Here are a few stories about other groups in other cities who have done what we are trying to do.

Several leaders in a mainland city group like ours asked to pray with the mayor on a regular basis. He loved it. The police chief got upset but wanted to pray also. They started to see significant improvement in relations with government and crime rates went down. Just a few leaders out of this group spending a few minutes in prayer with the leaders of their government made a difference. It makes God delight and smile when we do things like that.

This service you perform not only meets the needs of God's people, but also produces an outpouring of gratitude to God.

By having groups like this in various cities, they found that they were able to reach people that would not go to church. Fathers and mothers in the business community, who dropped out of the church many years ago, through this type of group, were led back as families to local churches. Also many people, who had never step foot into a church, came to know Jesus and became part of the local churches of the people in this type of group.

Go into all the world and preach the gospel.

From churches all over the city, they recruited people to be in a play they put on. They eventually had stopped the play because so many people became Christians that they were spending time helping them become strong, more mature Christians.

I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last.

One city held regular meetings with all churches attending. Some of the benefits were that children from small churches got to know Christian kids from other churches so instead of five or six friends who love Jesus, they had hundreds. This is so important to young children. The pooling of their scarce resources made them better stewards of their money and they were able to do things they would never attempt as a small church. Several small churches decided to have one vacation bible school and share the cost. An example of churches coming together is taking place here July 20th at the Lahaina Civic Center when we will have Greg Laurie come with a special message and top singing groups will spend a night in concert and here the special message Greg will bring. Please mark that on your calendar and tell everyone.

We must bear the 'burden' of being considerate of the doubts and fears of others.

Another city handled a major crime problem by peacefully standing in front of some bad places. They had sweet grandmothers there with the protection of members of the local group, just asking the people starting to enter these places if their mom would like them going in. They drove the evil places out of business, and out of town. Creative consensus thinking by a group of people that love God, hated evil, and obeyed the local laws to create positive change.
God's people should be big hearted and courteous.

Other cities have done things such as helping in the homeless, repairing homes, helping abused women, and families, but always sharing the Good News as the purpose for doing anything they do.

You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.

I really believe there are some unique things we can do here on Maui. We only listed a few above to get you thinking of what we could do, as a group, that would make a difference.

Dan Williams sharing his workplace story

Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life.

We are now looking for members, people who want to be on the board as well as a leader for this organization. Some of you may know of a retired executive who is looking for something special to do a couple of hours per month. Tell them about this opportunity. Let us know if you can come to our next planning lunch (in June), and if you would like to be a board member.

Give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.

Please check out our web site www.churchofmaui.com. Put your web site on it. Use our calendar of events to announce things your church is doing that they want others to attend. Give out our web site to anyone who wants to know more about being a Christian, are leaving the island, and you don't have time to show them. It has great bible studies, and we answer all the emails that come in. Also, a daily devotion is mail out each day all over the world to guest at our resort. If you would like to get that daily, let us know.

In closing we want to thank all that came out for the lunch. We were concerned that we would not get such a motivated group here on Maui. It exceeded our expectations, not just because of the number in attendance, but because of the shear desire of so many who want to do something extraordinary on Maui. Stop and think on what Jesus said,

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
